Laser Cut Octagon

Laser Cut Box - Animation (4x3).gif

This animation demonstrates the assembly process of the octagon. Designed in Fusion 360, all of the octagon’s proportions can be easily modified and adjusted!

This was my first project in high school using a laser cutter. I wanted to learn how to design a complex 3D object with tricky joinery, so I decided to make an octagon with internal compartments that all slot together that would be completely laser cut and held together by friction.

The octagon incorporates most common joints used when designing objects for laser cutting. Pieces slide into each other to form seamless overlaps, connect together to form the box’s frame, and slot into each other so the two halves of the octagon base become one.
