3D Printed Lamp

Inconspicuous when it’s off…

Illuminates images when it’s on!

This completely 3D printed lamp interacts with light to redefine what a lamp can be. Rather than simply lighting up a room, the lamp embeds lithophanes into its design, allowing images to be displayed throughout the lampshade’s faces. When the light is off, the lamp looks like nothing more than a plastic box with strange, random contours, but when light shines through the lampshade, pictures are illuminated in incredible detail, bringing life to the photos in the frame.

This animation demonstrates the assembly process of the lamp. Designed in Fusion 360, all of the lamp’s proportions can be easily modified and adjusted!

How It’s Made:

Disassembled, these are all of the lamp’s components.

The modular nature of the lampshade and the panes that slot into it allow the owner to change the images whenever they want! This allows the user to change the theme or mood of their environment by simply 3D printing a new set of images.

The light bulb holds everything together, clamping the lamp frame to its base.

Image panes slide into grooves embedded in the lampshade’s frame. This creates a sealed box where light cannot escape except through the lithophane.
